This website is run by me, Catherine Pope. I completed a PhD on Florence Marryat at the University of Sussex in 2014. Since then, I’ve turned my thesis into a monograph and contributed chapters to edited collections. I’m now (very slowly) writing a biography of Marryat.
Please do email me if you have any suggestions, amendments or questions. I would be delighted to hear from anyone with an interest in Marryat.
Although I was briefly a university lecturer, I now run PhD Progress, a coaching and training business. In my spare time, such as it is, I’m the managing editor at Victorian Secrets, a independent press dedicated to publishing books from and about the nineteenth century. So far we have published three of Marryat’s novels: The Dead Man’s Message, Her Father’s Name, and The Blood of the Vampire. Love’s Conflict is currently in progress, and a couple more are in the pipeline.
